Bark (iPhone): Installation and Device Key Setup
Bark is a push notification app for iPhone. When you use Bark to receive alerts, the most urgent ones can use iOS's Critical alert level, which breaks through silent mode and Do Not Disturb and still makes a sound.
- Search for and install Bark from the App Store on your iPhone.
- Open Bark and allow it to send notifications. To use the Critical alert level, you also need to enable Critical Alerts for Bark in your iPhone's notification settings; otherwise, Critical alerts will not break through silent mode.
- Copy the Device key string shown on the Bark app's home screen (it is the segment of the push URL that comes after the Server address).
- Go to the Reminders page on the website, find the Bark (iOS) card, and turn on the Enable toggle.
- Paste your Device key into the Device key field.
- Leave the Server address as https://api.day.app. If you are running your own Bark server, enter your own address instead; it must be a public-network address — addresses pointing to a private network will be rejected.
- Click Save changes at the bottom of the page, then click Send test push.
To hear what your phone will sound like for due-time and nag alerts, expand the Due-time push and Nag push sections and click Preview due-time push and Preview nag push. A preview sends only one notification and does not repeat; when an actual deadline arrives, the app will send one push every 30s according to your settings.
